Resource Conservation and Development
The mission of the Red River Resource Conservation and Development Council is to provide leadership by seeking technical and financial assistance to create new opportunities in agriculture, employment, area conservation and development.
The vision is to facilitate progress through cooperative efforts in our communities, improve the economy, and enhance quality of life.
The overall goal of the Red River Resource Conservation and Development Council is to promote the preservation and improvement of the quality of life in the Region by implementing action plans for the wise use and orderly improvement and development of resources in the area. This will be accomplished by implementing the following goals:
- Reduce the area economic dependence on the production and marketing of unprocessed agricultural crops by promoting new business development, agricultural diversity, alternative agriculture, agriculture tourism and processing agriculture products, in order to stabilize the rural economy and population in the Red River area.
- Improved management and utilization by identifying and promoting sustainable uses for natural resources (soils, water, air, uplands and riparian areas), to reduce erosion, and to protect and enhance the quality and manage the quality of surface and ground water resources in the area.
- Develop increased public awareness of the value of natural resources as a component of a desirable quality of life.
- Assist communities seeking improved facilities and services resulting in a better quality of life for citizens.
Resource Conservation and Development Council
The Red River RC&D Council is a unique partnership between the Federal Government and communities. It is administered by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and helps people improve their quality of life and natural resources in a way that will improve the area's economy, environment and living standards. The RC&D Council offers a way for local people to initiate, sponsor, plan and implement projects that will make their area a better place to live.
The RC&D Council serves the counties of Grand Forks, Nelson, Pembina and Walsh in North Dakota. These four counties, along with assistance provided by the USDA/NRCS coordinator, assist with the coordination of efforts of local communities in the region along with private and public organizations to help carry out project activities. This results in the successful implementation of projects that benefit land conservation, water management, community development and environmental concerns throughout the Red River RC&D region.
The RC&D Council meets as needed to discuss issues related to the program and consider potential projects.
The RC&D Council is an equal opportunity employer. All programs and services provided through the USDA RC&D program are offered on a non-discriminatory basis.
