The community of Mountain, North Dakota has planned and raised funds for a new community center and building for its fire department. Bids have been opened and construction should begin during Fall 2009. This project will utilize the Community Development Block Grant.

Northwood Disaster Recovery

After the community of Northwood, North Dakota was struck by a tornado, the Red River Regional Council has worked on projects to assist with individual residential housing rehabilitation, rehabilitation of the city's East Mobile Home Park, demolition of downtown buildings and rehabilitation of a low to moderate income (LMI) apartment complex.

Rural Living Handbook

The Red River RC&D provided technical and financial assistance to the Grand Forks Soil Conservation District in developing a statewide Rural Living Handbook.  This handbook is intended to be a value resource for those people who are contemplating a move to the countryside as well as for those who have already done so.  It provides information on a wide range of topics, including environmental concerns, that most people unfamiliar with rural areas need to be aware of as they transition to country living.  Over 15,000 copies of the handbook were printed in July of 2009.  If you know of someone interested in moving to the country, please stop by and pick up a copy at our office, free of charge or check it out on the web at http://gfscd.org/Rural_Living_Handbook.htm.

Stump Lake Park Master Plan

Technical assistance was provided to the Stump Lake Park Board to develop a master plan of stump lake park to use as a baseline inventory for future planning purposes. A 15 page master plan document was produced by the Red River RC&D with assistance from Gary Wells, USDA-NRCS Landscape Architect. The master plan is available for download at www.ndrcd.org (click on Project Highlights & Articles).

2008 Red River Riparian Project - Priority Watersheds in NE North Dakota

In June of 2008, a new riparian project was started to address priority watersheds in North East North Dakota. The Red River Riparian Project was funded at 1.4 million dollars from the EPA's 319 program and is scheduled to last for 5 years. The main goal is to provide technical and financial assistance for riparian restoration to landowners, communities, water resource districts and soil conservation districts within targeted watersheds in the Lower Red River Basin of North Dakota. The Red River RC&D Council and the Red River Regional Council will review individual project practices and associated costs before dollars are expended. Project focus is to treat a reach of a river and not just individual sites. [read more]
