Josh Klug Named North Dakota Small Business Development Center State Star

Grafton, North Dakota - The North Dakota Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has announced that Josh Klug has been selected as the 2009 State Star of the North Dakota SBDC. Klug was one of 63 recipients across the nation to be honored by the National Association of Small business Development Centers because of his exemplary performance.
“Through my job, I get to work with numerous businesses throughout the region, helping them develop plans and get ready for financing. I really enjoy this work,” Klug commented. “I am so honored to be receiving this award.” Klug serves as the Regional Director of the SBDC offices in Northeastern North Dakota, serving 10 counties. The Red River Regional Council hosts the region’s SBDC office, serving Grand Forks, Nelson, Pembina and Walsh Counties in North Dakota. The Regional Council contracts with the North Central Planning Council to offer SBDC assistance in Eddy, Ramsey, Benson, Rolette, Towner and Cavalier Counties as well.
Throughout this region in 2009, the North Dakota SBDC helped businesses access over $22.8 million in capital to help start or expand their businesses. In total, the offices saw 187 clients and delivered over 1400 hours of one-on-one consultation for those clients. Over 19% of all clients assisted in 2009 acquired capital for their businesses as a result of SBDC consultation received. Overall, this activity resulted in 27% of the state-wide program’s output during that year.
Klug has worked with the Small Business Development Center since the spring of 2007. He has a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from the University of North Dakota, with a major in business economics, as well as a Masters degree from the University of North Dakota in Applied Economics.

Each SBDC program is a partnership uniting private enterprise, government, higher education and local nonprofit economic development organizations. With about 1,000 centers across the nation, the SBDC network provided business consulting to approximately 200,000 clients, training for more than 400,000 attendees, and other forms of management and technical assistance to approximately 600,000 small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs last year.
About the Red River Regional Council
The Red River Regional Council was organized in 1973 to assist the local leadership with developing and carrying out plans of action for overall development of natural and human resources within North Dakota's sub-state Planning Region IV, consisting of Grand Forks County, Nelson County, Pembina County and Walsh County. The Council serves 40 communities within those counties. The Red River Regional Council offers services in the following areas: economic development, community development, resource conservation and development, hazard mitigation, historic preservation, housing and public facilities.
